| Swedish Massage - With its long luxurious strokes towards the heart center, Swedish massage is a wonderful way to promote and maintain general health and well-being. Healthy tissue is relaxed, vascular (blood rich) and benefits from the free flow of oxygen and vital nutrients. Originally developed for treatment of hospital patients, Swedish massage continues to be a healing way to increase circulation, promote relaxation and support the body in its own restorative process. | ||||||||||||||
| Connective (deep) Tissue Therapy - Akin to Rolfing or Structural Integration, Connective Tissue Therapy is a deeper form of massage. Clients often report a deep sense of radiating pressure that is intense yet pleasurable. All the muscles of the body are surrounded by a connective tissue called fascia, which creates contraction and release -- contraction for movement and release for the relaxed resting state. When fascia becomes stagnant chronic muscle contraction occurs which limits blood flow and the movement of oxygen and nutrients to the area. CTT work, with its slow, deep, prolonged strokes, literally works the muscle fascia, encouraging a healthier, more fluid state. CTT work literally creates a release in the fascial layer so that the tissue relaxes and literally invites the massage therapist's hands into the muscle fibers for ever deeper work. Trigger Point (Myofascial release/neuromuscular) Therapy - Trigger Points, also known as knots or adhesions, are areas of contraction within the muscle. When a therapist locates them clients often experience a That's It! Right There! moment, where they feel deep often referred sensations. With Trigger Point work, also known as myofascial release or neuromuscular therapy, the therapist will use slow, deep, careful drags over the skin to locate and treat the affected area. A Trigger Point session can frequently provide pain relief throughout a much broader area. Head, Neck and Shoulders Treatment - This concentrated session addresses the more common areas of chronic muscle tension, begining at the base of the neck and moving down the back well past the shoulders. A full head, neck and shoulders treatment can have a wonderfully healing affect on the entire body. This particular session also includes work on the low back, because some of the hardest working back muscles run the length of the back from the head to the gluteal area, and the feet because they are literally our foundation for all our movement. TMJ/Facial massage - This treatment includes a relaxing facial and head massage to bring balance to the muscles of the face and cranium. Stress can manifest in some people with nocturnal teeth grinding, which can contribute to jaw pain, headaches, stiff neck and shoulder adhesions. The slow careful massage of the Temperomandibular joint can facilitate release and relaxation of the chronically clenched muscle resulting in relief from tension and freedom from pain. Elder Massage -- For many seniors the enhanced circulation and increased relaxation benefits of massage are invaluable. Massage offers a wonderful way to give Elders compassionate touch that is based in therapeutic healing. An older person may suffer from challenging age-related health issues, as well as the long-term effects of inactivity and related chronic muscle contraction. Careful consideration is paid to their comfort and massage can be offered while fully clothed, in seated or well-supported side-lying positions if preferred. |
